Fox Art | Fox Oil Painting | Animal Art

I've have recently started working on a large oil painting of the fox. I did a small ink study and then a watercolour study before tackling the big piece. This picture represents dreams, love and the river is meant to signify “still rivers run deep”.

I am mixing up a selection of colours first before blending them on the canvas to get this effect. I am using a small brush and making lots of little marks. I am pleased with how the oil is turning out so far and I have not run into any major problems.

I love the composition of the ink drawing, it tells a story and I like how all the components are all swirling together. I felt that in the watercolour image I lost the same swirly shape which makes it less pleasant to the eye and more awkward to look at it.  I also found that in the watercolour it was hard to get the branch textures defined as I could not build up the paint layers and it did not work as well.

As the oil progresses I would like to try and get it back to the same shape as the original ink study, and get that lovely swirly feeling when you look at it pulling your eye into the image. My aim is to also paint the branches back in and have that organic wild shape of them all entwined together, which I find so romantic.

I am doing loads of little bird studies at the moment so I can paint in the humming bird sitting on the branch and I would also like to add another hummingbird to the top right corner. Hummingbirds are very lucky and when I am ever down I always draw or paint one to make me feel better, which seems to do the trick.
