Painting a Daks Jacket to celebrate their 125th Birthday

This year I was asked to do some live painting during the Chelsea Flower Show at The Hari Hotel. as a collaboration between Daks, The Hari Hotel and the florist Ami Bone. Every year for one week in May all the shops and hotels in Chelsea decorate their exteriors with stunning flowers, along side this run Belgravia blooms where the Hari hotel is located. I was really honoured to bas asked as they wanted to me to paint a white man’s blazer inspired by the flowers arranged by Ami Bone. The blazer then would be kept in the archive at Daks to make their 125th birthday celebration.

It was such a beautiful day to be painting outside, we were so lucky with the weather. I had 5 hours to paint the blazer. The entire time this was being filmed so they could film the progress of the painting. Within that time frame I would only have time to paint quite expressive flowers as I had to work quickly. The jacket wasn’t primed so I would have to apply the paint quite thickly in order for it to take the paint. I was actually surprised how well the paint applied onto the jacket. I had to come up with a design on the spot, so I just kept looking at the flower display and incorporated what I saw into the design. I started on the back of the blazer and worked my way around onto the front. I was really happy with the final design and painting.
